How this Could Finally be Anthony Anderson’s Year to win an Emmy
A slippery slope is upon the lead actor of the well-recieved ABC comedy Black-ish. He’s is not at the cusps of record nominations, no, he’s no Angela Lansberry [17 noms], but he could soon be on the same list. Since the start of the show Black-ish, Anthony Anderson has worked hard and managed to be nominated five straight times for the category of outstanding actor in a comedy series. Countless times he’s been beat out, but could this be the year?
Yes!!! Here’s why!
Show Hole
Let’s look at the nominee this year for comedies. It was not a strong year for comedies as repeat shows like the good place and Barry are the only true competitors. The reign of Modern family and other shows that followed its co-tails are over. The first time in five years that Black-ish is the only successful show that deserve recognition.
It’s a Woman’s world
This year isn’t about the battle of who is the funniest man, no that’s a competition repeatedly played throughout the years. For once, it feels like everyone cares about Phoebe Waller-Bridge and how she damn sure better win for Fleabag [2016]. Furthermore in the woman’s category we have great names like Christina Applegate who killed here performance in Dead to me [2019] and who can forget the reigning champ Rachel Brosnahan who keeps exceeding expectations with the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. This might be the year that all focus shifts gender when it comes to the true leaders of comedy, giving Anthony Anderson a slight advantage in a category typically ruled by white men.
Who’s really going to take it from him?
Year in and year out, Black-ish brings a level of well deserves laughs and an adequately represented Black family on television. Any other year that Anthony Anderson was nominated was just poor timing. Going against great shows and actors like Donald Glover, and if weren’t for Aziz Ansari’s becoming recluse in the previous year I would have to give Master of None a chance. But both shows which are on hiatus at the moment won’t be at this years Emmy awards! Who’s going to stop him now? Ted Danson?
He’s has to beat the system!
Going to an award show five time and walk out empty-handed has got to have a person’s mind going in circles really questioning if I’m just a name holder to fill out the ballet. But I say Anthony Anderson time is now, the planets have aligned right, Black-ish is in its groove. So, for those who spend countless hours guessing the winners at award shows, keep Anthony Anderson’s name in the back pocket.
