A Hilarious and Action-Packed Take on Dracula with a Serious Message
Renfield Movie Review:
A year ago, I reviewed the movie Day Shift and remarked that if the filmmakers had spent half as much time on the story as they did on the action, it could have been a great movie. Well, it seems like Hollywood was listening to me, because the latest Dracula-inspired movie, Renfield, strikes a much better balance between story and action.
Don’t get me wrong, Renfield isn’t a fantastic movie, and I’m still a bit annoyed with the over-saturation of vampire movies. But I have to admit that I deeply enjoyed how much this movie didn’t take itself seriously, until it did — and I audibly went “Bleh!” in the theater.
Nicolas Cage’s performance was solid, but I was hoping for a bit more of his trademark overacting. Nevertheless, I found myself chuckling throughout the movie, especially with the side comments that cracked me up. Ben Schwartz, who always goes over the top, was perfect for his role.
Now, I have to admit that I watched Renfield under the influence of Indica. If you’re into pairing cannabis with your movies, I highly recommend you do the same. It’s the perfect strain to help you let this movie just play. There are no big-brain jokes or campy nature, but rather funny lore added to the Dracula story.
Speaking of cannabis strains, I suggest you try some of these Indica-dominant strains with Renfield:
- Granddaddy Purple: This is a classic Indica strain that will help you relax and unwind. It has a sweet grape and berry aroma, which pairs well with the movie’s light-hearted humor.
- Bubba Kush: This strain is known for its sedative effects and earthy flavor profile. It’s the perfect strain to help you sink into your couch and enjoy the movie.
- Purple Punch: With its fruity and sweet aroma, this strain will give you a pleasant buzz that pairs well with the movie’s fun and whimsical atmosphere.
But Renfield is more than just a fun movie to watch while high. It has a serious message about abusive relationships, which is unexpected in a movie about Dracula’s minion. The movie ultimately turns into a call to action against abusive relationships, and I appreciated that the filmmakers used their platform to raise awareness about this important issue.
In conclusion, if you’re looking for a funny and action-packed take on the Dracula story that also delivers a serious message, Renfield is definitely worth a watch. And if you’re a cannabis user, make sure to pair it with the right strain to enhance your experience.
So grab some popcorn, roll a joint, and enjoy Renfield! And don’t forget to spread the word about the movie’s message against abusive relationships. Let’s all do our part to raise awareness and help those who are struggling.
